It's my birthday. And I will cry, or get rip roaring drunk if I want to.

Greetings friends! I have got to update this thing with some pictures, or something! I haven't looked at it in a while and it's looking pretty sad. I will write in a reminder in my schedule to spruce it up a bit. In the meantime, I have a birthday coming up this Friday and I am excited. I get so excited over birthdays. Most of my friends could care less about their birthdays, and I find that unfortunate. I think mine, and everyone else's birthday, should be a full out celebration, dragged out as long as possible!

I'm turning 25 this year and I don't know how I feel about that. 25 is not old. And I still have my looks and health so I really have nothing to complain about. But it is strange how fast your years go by once you graduate high school, or that's when I started to notice it fly by anyway. I don't think I ever pictured my life at 25, but I feel pretty satisfied with myself and my accomplishments thus far. Especially if you take a look back at my lifestyle 4 years ago. No need to go into any details, but let's just say I've come a long way! I'm in a wonderful relationship with my best friend, and I never knew I could love someone as much as I love Sterling. Most of my family is still alive and in good health, I have great girlfriends, even though I don't see them near as much and they are increasingly moving away, Megan, Barrett, Donald :(, but life is wonderful and I am thankful to have lived a quarter of a century!

Enough of that sappy stuff, let's talk about the party! We are having a party for me at our house this Saturday, May 17th at 5pm. I think I've invited all of you, but if anyone is reading this and hasn't been invited, you are more than likely welcome to come ;) We're having a cookout, Miami Vices, wine, beer, and cake. Seriously, what else could you want in life? Well besides a beach or pool and for that, I'm more sorry than you that I can't have that on my birthday. Here is the disclaimer: family, friends, children of friends, etc. Leigh has a tendency to blow-it-out on my birthdays. Any sloppy, trash talkin, physical, silly, sassy, whathaveyou behavior is bound to happen, and will have to be totally accepted. Especially when you throw Donsey into the mix ;) Don't say you were weren't warned. Looking forward to seeing you all out!

End of the month update

So guess what guys, I'M PREGNANT! haha jk APRIL FOOLS!! Thank God for that too, there's no way in hell we could afford a baby right now. Besides, where would the baby sleep with Sterlings computer and guitar domain in the spare bedroom ;) I'm not usually 1 for jokes, but everyone around my office has been quite the jokester today so I'm in the spirit. I'm so gullible too. Well anyway, I'm just updating my blog like I said I would at the end of each month. Not too much has been going on in our world, just work and school. We've been working hard for the past 2 months with the new house and everything so Sterling and I are going to Atlanta this weekend! I'm very excited although realized it was quite silly of me to book this weekend get away at the beginning of the month when all the bills are due. Oh well.

I am in the works of planning our house-warming party but it will probably turn out to be my birthday party too. I haven't decided if I want the 2 to be together or separate, but it would be nice to have 1 big party instead of 2. Birthdays are usually days where no work is involved for the birthday girl and there's definitely work involved in a party so we'll see. The tentative day for that is Sat. May 17th. I will update it when I know for sure it will be happening. By the way, has anyone been to this bar called Top of The Dock? It's located in or around Lakeshore so it's probably redneck but the concept (or I'm a big sucker for their billboard and enigma ad) looks like fun.

Sterling will finally transfer to UTC in the summer and I'm very excited for him. Right now, he's trying to decide if he wants to continue with his Computer Science major, or go another route. Whatever he decides he will do extremely well in because he's so freakin smart and never cracks a book! Good news for us, our tentative graduation dates are Aug. '09 for me and May or Dec. '10 for Sterling. Woot! Woot!

Carrie

I'm so sad today and I'm sitting here at work fighting back tears. As some of you reading this know, a childhood friend of mine, Carrie Daugherty, was murdered in Knoxville early Weds. am. I am in total shock and disbelief. If it weren't for the news reports, NDHS alumni e-mails, posts to her myspace and facebook pages, I honestly would not believe this happened. It almost makes you feel guilty to grieve so much over a single person when sick and senseless acts of violence happen to people all over the world every day. But when it hits home like this, to someone you know, someone your age, it scares and hurts you so much. I literally feel like my heart is broken and I have an indescribable sadness and sorrow for her family.

I remember Carrie being well liked and popular as early as kindergarten. I mean, who is popular in kindergarten? Carrie was and for great reason. As kids I, and everyone else, wanted to be her friend. Carrie was outgoing, pretty, nice, and hilarious. She was wise beyond her years as far as her wit goes and I remember specific moments where she had our whole class laughing so hard we cried. I went to preschool and kindergarten with Carrie at St. Peters and then elementary school at St. Jude. I have many St. Jude memories with Carrie. From about 5th grade on, Carrie choreographed dances to the talent shows to songs like Boyz II Men's "Motown Philly" and Weezer's "Buddy Holly". I was never in the dances, but always wanted to be in them because they were just the coolest dances. I attended 1 of my first concerts with Carrie and a couple of other friends. It was a Boyz II Men and Brandy concert at UTC arena, "the roundhouse" as it was known in those days. We were in 6th grade and I remember being jealous of her because she had a boyfriend and he was there at the concert, arms around her. Carrie and I became good friends in 6th grade and later that year, my mom took Carrie, two friends Natalie and Katie, and I to Atlanta for my 12th birthday. We made our picture at Dave and Busters, snuck into the hotel swimming pool late at night and swam and danced to TLC's "Red Light Special", and all watched our first porno movie (BY ACCIDENT!) on HBO on the hotel's tv.

In 7th grade, Carrie took over my year book and wrote comments all through it about a crush I had on a certain guy. I wish I had that year book in front of me cuz I remember laughing my ass off reading it. When we were in 8th grade, I joined the cheer leading team where Carrie was head cheerleader. We made history that year because we were the only squad ever (and probably since) that painted our faces in red and white (St. Jude Saints colors), and sprayed red dye in our hair...all of that Carrie's idea. Carrie always had a love for Garth Brooks, George Strait, and all the other old classics. She especially had a love for Garth though, professing her love for him on many occasions. She fought for The River to be our 8th grade graduation song. Carrie got her wish and we sang "I will sail my vessel, to the river runs dry.." loud and proud at graduation.

In high school, Carrie was just as popular as she had always been and became involved with everything. She was a cheerleader all 4 years and active in numerous groups and organizations at Notre Dame. We grew apart in high school but always had a kind and funny word to say to each other in class or in passing in the halls. Years after we graduated, I ran into Carrie at a Widespread Panic concert and I was so excited to see her because I had no idea she was a fan. We became friends on myspace and facebook and kept in touch periodically.

No words I say can do her memory and impact on others justice. She was too great of a person to sum up words or in a blog. But looking back on all these memories does bring a much needed smile to my face. I will miss her and wish I could have spent more time with her in her last years. I know this blog is supposed to be about Sterling and me, but this is the first person I have lost that I feel such extreme emotion for. Carrie and I were not best friends or even close these last years, but I know that if I ran into her at anytime, she would greet me with a big hug and smile, as she would anyone. For all you reading this out there, please pray, wish, feel, whatever you believe, for this family and for her kind soul. Her family has had a lot of tragedy in the past year and they need all the support they can get. Thanks for taking the time to read this. God bless you Carrie and your family.

I've been a bad, bad girl...

Alright alright people! I didn't actually know you people read this crap, but it turns out that you do! Thank you! Well, it's been WAY too long since an update to this thing. I promised to keep this up and I've been a bad girl. But you know, I looked at when I wrote my last entry and it's only been a little over a month, so quit your bitching! I'm about to tell you all why it's been so damn long...

We are officially moved into our little house on Whitney St. and I couldn't be happier. Moving was hell and if you're considering renting your own truck instead of getting movers, DO NOT DO IT! It's worth the money to get movers. We had some good help moving though, thanks to Sterling's extended family. But that U-Haul truck was a freakin' joke. Thank God I didn't have to drive it and God bless Sterling for driving it! Anyway, we (I) ;) worked late into the night that first week to get everything set up and it looks pretty good. Sterling's been so sweet and going to all those awful stores like Tuesday Morning to help pick out home stuff. We've got more work to do, especially yard work, but we're still planning on having a house warming party in the spring or early summer.

My life has been CRAZY lately and I've been beyond busy. I went from living downtown in a tiny apartment with my cat, working part time at the hospital and the restaurant, and having 1 dinky night class at Chatt state...to moving into a house with Sterling, my cat, and his or now our dog, quitting my job at the pharmacy and going to work full time managing a small pharmacy in a physician's office (also working every other Sat. at the cafe), and going back to school full time at Covenant College, along with my night class at Chatt State. So THAT'S why I haven't posted anything lately. Sterling said he was going to start contributing and I guess it's time for him to put his 2 cents in! Sterling has been very busy as well. He's in school and working as well.

I guess I haven't said too much about my new job, but I've been working here for 3 weeks now. I work for a small company out of Jacksonville, FL and they provide pharmacy software and services to physician's offices for their Workers Comp. patients. all over the East coast. We will soon go 3rd party (in about a month) so our patient base will greatly expand and I'm excited about that. I like my job, it is literally night and day compared to my job at the hospital. Things I like about my new job are the hours approx. 8-4 M-F, the pay is a little better than the hospital (still not very good but that's what the degree is for!), and I work on my own with no supervisor on site. If you know anything about me, you know I like to run the show so I'm all about that!

Anything else I need to update you guys on? Sterling is great..working and school, our animals are having troubles getting along but I think things will get better. I still haven't figured out how to post pictures on this thing (haven't taken the time to learn), but will eventually.

I also want to say that I'm sorry if any of you feel like I haven't been a very good friend lately. I haven't been very social or called many people back lately and it is simply because I am too busy and/or too tired to do so. I know that's a shitty excuse but it's an honest one. Thanks to my management professor, I'm working on a time management schedule and will hopefully have more free time soon. Getting used to a completely new schedule is hard work, but I am working on it so please don't get mad at me! ;) FYI, the best way to contact me is either through myspace or e-mail. I am terrible at returning phone calls, and I'm constantly in front of a computer so I am bound to remain in contact with you electronically. Don't give me that crap about it not being personal, get over it! ;)

I will update this thing on a monthly basis, at the end of the month (I will pencil this in on my time management grid!) So please check back and thank you again to all those people who read this! I know people think blogging is pretty silly and in theory, it really is. This is something I wanted to create for me and Sterling to have to look back on and to communicate with you all with so it means a lot to me when you guys read this!

Hope everyone is doing well! xoxo - L

Our first house!

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since an entry and that's because we've been very busy. We've been apt./house hunting for the past couple of weeks and it's slim pickens out there! We were so desperate to find something big enough and nice enough, we were considering moving out to East Brainerd (very far away from our little bubble). But last week on my way to the gym, I passed a For Rent sign and checked it out and it was absolutely perfect! It was a HOUSE number 1, and 2, it was in a great area and had all the amenities we wanted. So today, we signed the lease and move in Feb. 1st!!! It's all very exciting and happening so fast, I don't even want to think about all the work we have to do around here.

To tell you a little about the house since I have no pictures up yet, it's a 2 bedroom 1 bath blue house located in the Rivermont area of Chattanooga (between North Chatt. and Hixson). It's all hardwood floors except for the spare bedroom (we're using it for an office/guitar/gym room) which is carpeted. It has a huge wooden deck that covers the entire back of the house. Perfect for summer cookouts and you bet your ass I'm buying a giant baby pool and sunning it up all summer! The front yard is small, but big enough to plant some pretty flowers and the back yard is pretty big but in desperate need of landscaping. Any landscaping artists out there, PLEASE help me out because I have no expertise in that area. Directly below the deck, there's a pretty good size fenced in area that hopefully Dexter will stay some of the time. Sterling thinks he'll probably get out but it's such a perfect place for a dog to stay. We'll just have to see. Dexter and Ali (our pets) are in for a surprise because they've never lived together or met each other. But according to Sterling they'll be best friends so I guess we have nothing to worry about!

So needless to say we have our hands full but I am so excited to have my own house to decorate and to finally have people over. I love to entertain and with my 2 room apt., not much entertainment has gone on in the past 2 years. Speaking of entertainment, we're going to have a housewarming party as soon as we get things settled and we'll keep you up to date with the details. That's all for now - I'm off to pack!

Our anniversary night..

So Sterling and I celebrated our 1st anniversary last night and had a great time! Our anniversary is Jan. 3rd but we waited to the weekend to officially celebrate. We ate dinner at Canyon Grill on Lookout Mtn. and it was wonderful as usual. That is my favorite restaurant in Chattanooga and if you haven't ever been, I highly recommend it. I've never had a bad meal there and all of the food is fresh and such high quality. I like it up there because it's such a pretty drive there, I mean just the drive up there is a special occasion no matter why you're going to eat there, and it's casual so there's no fuss over what to wear and you can just relax and have some amazing food. Best part of all is it's BYOB with no corking fee! We opted for some Sammy Smith's as I'm still recovering from all the wine I drank over Christmas and New Years. Anyway it was so romantic and fabulous, I can't wait to go back!

We couldn't make our 815 movie in time, so we headed to Northshore to see our favorite bar tender Brian for a drink. It was nice as usual, not crowded. We went to see Juno at the Rave at 10pm and it was a very cute movie. It's kinda girly, but not too girly. Sterling enjoyed it, I think not as much as me though. I cried at the very end when she has the baby cuz I'm such a sucker!
Well that about sums up our anniversary. We came home and went to bed. But Sterling got me the most beautiful bouquet of red roses and a singing card! It was great, and that was the first time he got me flowers too and I just love flowers.

Well, I am now an official student at Covenant College. I got my student e-mail account today and lists of textbooks so it's on baby! This whole thing has really snuck up on me and it's hard to believe that I'm doing this but I'm really excited and glad to be finally finishing school. Well, that's all the time I have now bc my lunch break is ending up at work, but will write back soon!

Our first anniversary!

So yeah..this is my first blog. I'm new to this but bored at work and decided to write a blog. I was inspired and somewhat copied my friends on this site after checking theirs out and seeing how neato it looked. I'm creating this for me and my boyfriend, Sterling, on our one year anniversary. I don't know how much Sterling will actually contribute to it but we'll see.

We both unofficially live together in mine, or now our, apartment in downtown Chattanooga. It is way too small for the 2 of us and my cat so we will be getting a bigger place in August when my lease runs out. I'd like to stay downtown, or even in the same building but bigger apartment if we can afford it. There aren't too many affordable downtown apts. left in Chattanooga, this town has gone condo crazy, but I love the convenience and the scenery on my runs that downtown, the "north shore", and the museum district provide so I hope we can stay here come August. Sterling has a border collie named Dexter which will be joining us as well when we get a bigger place but my cat doesn't know about that yet. He is such a sweet dog, I can't wait for him to be a part of our little family and I've never had a dog before so it will be fun.

Sterling and I work a lot. I work part time at Memorial Hospital's pharmacy, part time at a restaurant, and I babysit for a family. Sterling is an intern in the IS dept. at Life Care Centers of America in Cleveland, TN and works there 4 days a week. I've been trying to get into Dental Hygiene school at Chatt State for forever now and finished all my pre reqs and have been pretty much just waiting to apply again come March. I actually have to take 1 more class for the hygiene program (starts in less than 2 weeks) that my advisor failed to mention to me until a couple of months ago. Sterling is also going to be at Chatt State next semester taking some gen eds he still needs to complete and then he will be transferring to UTC in the summer or fall if all goes according to plan. He will finish his major in Computer Science that he started on at GA Tech in ATL and possibly double major or minor in something businessey.

Being restless from no school, not wanting to put my life on hold for a year again, and feeling the pains of guilt from never finishing college, I applied to Covenant College's Quest Program (a degree finishing program that meets 1 night a week, 4 hours per night, for 18 months in downtown) and found out today that I got in! So I have further complicated my life but I am at least guaranteed to be in 1 program this year! I am going to move forward with it if my good ole dad will go along with the financial side of it and will start Feb. 5th. I work 2nd shift at the hospital so it will be interesting to try and work around my 2 night classes but I will hopefully be able to move to 1st shift, or find another 1st shift rx job somewheres else because needless to say, I am ready for a change ;)

So our lives are pretty busy with work and school but we find plenty of time to relax. We're pretty big homebodies and enjoy being at home together with Ali (our cat) watching tv and being nerds the most. We also love to go out to eat and to the movies. I don't care how expensive the movies are I will ALWAYS go to the movies in the theater. Sterling doesn't drink very much so needless to say my party girl days are over. That is totally cool with me and still find time to party with my crazy but awesome girlfriends. They always get me way too drunk! Sterling and I also love, love, love Atlanta, GA and we go on weekend getaways there often as well as other getaways as we can afford them. We would like to someday relocate to Atlanta through our jobs but we also love our home here in Chattanooga. I love traveling and hope to some day be able to travel the world. But for now it's just around the south which is ok because there are definitely plenty of beautiful places around here. I like spending time outdoors when the weather is nice too, probably a little more than Sterling does but he goes along with it and enjoys it.

Well that's a good update or whatever on our lives and my lunch break is almost over so I will end it here. Will write back soon!
